To celebrate my fiftieth birthday I undertook a journey to backpack 200 miles from Kings Canyon to Northern Yosemite.

Inspired by Steve Roper's Sierra High Route, I created a route that took me along the crest of the Sierra Nevada range, mostly avoiding trails and sticking to timberline terrain as much as possible.

During summer of 2005 I hiked the entire distance in one long trip, about six weeks in duration.  The journey was broken into five stages and friends joined me for one or more stages.

The adventure was an amazing, fantastic experience.  It far exceeded my expectations.  I've written up some of the highlights of the trip that you might enjoy reading.  The gallery has some selected photos, and you can consult the map section to see where I hiked.  I've also included answers to some Frequently Asked Questions.
